Bourns Surge Protective Devices (SPDs) protect sensitive equipment from damage caused by lightning and electrical transient surges. These protective devices integrate discrete circuit protection devices into an assembly or system that provides enhanced functionality and protection. Based on Bourns' expertise in discrete circuit protection, the SPD product line includes protective devices for AC systems, DC power systems, signal data line circuits, and coaxial networks/CATV. Bourns SPDs protect various electronic, electrical, data communication, and telecommunication equipment.

Circuit Protection Devices

Bourns manufactures and supplies a wide range of circuit protection technologies, including fuses, PTC thermistors, varistors, GDTs, resettable thermal cut-offs, surge protection devices, hybrid protectors, discrete semiconductor solutions, and more. Signal & Data Line Surge Protective Devices

Bourns Signal and Data Line Surge Protective Devices (SPD) protect Gigabit Ethernet equipment from the effects of lightning and other transients. The model 1500 series Gigabit Ethernet SPDs incorporate the Bourns TBU® High-Speed Protector technology to provide an enhanced level of protection and performance. The series is offered in a grounded version as well as an isolated version for installations where no ground is available. The model 1500 Series is listed per UL 497B requirements.

Model 1840 DIN Rail Signal & Data Line Protectors

Bourns 1840 Model Signal and Dataline Protectors are high performance Surge Protection Devices (SPD) designed to protect sensitive electronic circuits and components from damaging surge voltages and currents. Features include low peak clamping voltage, ability to repeatedly protect against surge, convenient DIN-1 and DIN-3 rail mounting, and cable shields that may be either grounded or arc-protected to ground. The device's extremely fast response and low clamping voltages make the series well-suited for the protection of sensitive signal and datalines associated with computer, data communication, instrumentation, broadcasting and industrial controls. The devices may be used directly with EIA standard interfaces RS-232, RS-422, RS-423, RS-485 and with 4mA to 20mA and 50mA instrumentation loops. The Model 1840 Model Signal and Data line Protectors are fast, rugged, and capable of protecting against fast rising voltage transients as well as the severe current surges associated with lightning discharges, in each case up to rated limits.
