NXP Semiconductors PCA9420/PCA9421 Power Management ICs (PMICs)

NXP Semiconductors PCA9420/PCA9421 Power Management ICs (PMICs) are targeted to provide a complete power management solution for low-power microcontrollers or similar applications. These devices integrate two step-down (buck) DC-DC converters with I2C programmable output voltage. Both buck regulators have integrated high-side and low-side switches and related control circuitry to minimize the external component counts; a Pulse-Frequency Modulation (PFM) approach is utilized to achieve better efficiency under light load conditions.

Other protection features, such as overcurrent protection and undervoltage lockout (UVLO), are also provided. By default, the input for these regulators is powered by either VIN or VIN_AUX, whichever is the higher voltage. Additionally, two on-chip LDO regulators are provided to power various voltage rails within the system. Other features, such as the Fm+ I2C-bus interface, chip enable, and interrupt signal, are also provided. The NXP Semiconductors PCA9420/PCA9421 is offered in two packages: a 2.09mm x 2.09mm, 5mm x 5mm bump, 0.4mm pitch WLCSP package, and a 3mm x 3mm, 24-pin QFN package.
