Renesas Electronics RA6M5 32-Bit Microcontroller Group
Renesas Electronics RA6M5 32-Bit Microcontroller Group is a family of MCUs based on the high-performance 200MHz Arm® Cortex®-M33 core. The RA6M5 MCUs feature up to 2MB Code Flash memory with background and SWAP operation, 8KB Data Flash memory, and 512KB SRAM with Parity/ECC. The RA6M5 MCUs are ideal for IoT applications requiring strong security, rich connectivity, and a large amount of embedded RAM for connectivity stacks. These devices offer a broad range of communication interface options with CAN FD, Ethernet MAC with DMA, USB Full Speed and High Speed, and various serial interfaces. With the Octa-SPI interface, the 2MB on-chip Flash and 512KB on-chip RAM can be further extended. The increased amount of RAM with ECC is suitable for safety-critical applications. The integrated standby RAM, combined with the low power consumption of the Renesas 40nm process, is ideal for low-power applications. The on-chip Data Flash can be used as an EEPROM and eliminates the need for an external component. The memory block swap feature, in conjunction with the Security Crypto Engine, makes the RA6M5 an ideal choice for applications that require flexible in-field firmware updates. After new firmware is written to the Flash using Background Operation (BGO), Flash blocks of 32 kB can be swapped to update to the new firmware. The highly power-efficient RA6M5, with a power consumption of 107uA/MHz in Active Mode (while running the CoreMark® algorithm from Flash at 200MHz) and extremely fast wakeup times from standby (30uS from MOCO), is ideal for performance-hungry, communication-intensive, low-power applications.
The Renesas Electronics RA6M5 MCUs are supported by an open and flexible ecosystem concept, the Flexible Software Package (FSP), built on FreeRTOS. These devices are also expandable to use other real-time operating systems (RTOS) and middleware. The RA4M3 MCUs are suitable for IoT applications that require extensive communication options, future-proof security, large embedded RAM, and low active power consumption of 119µA/MHz when running the CoreMark algorithm from Flash.
