Vicor BCM6123 ChiP Bus Converter Modules

Vicor BCM6123 ChiP Bus Converter Modules operate from a 380VDC nominal input and deliver an isolated and Safety Extra Low Voltage (SELV) secondary output. BCM6123 bus converters come in a 63.34mm x 22.80mm x 7.21mm 6123 ChiP package and offer up to 125A output current. These Vicor modules offer 8.1V to 51.3V output voltage and efficiency up to 98%. BCM6123 also features digital PMBus communication that allows control and telemetry capability within the system design.

Size, Weight, and Power Efficiency Challenges
Size, weight, and power (SWaP) of a UAV are directly proportional to payload capability and flight time. The power delivery network (PDN) is a major contributor to a UAV's size and weight. The lightweight, high-density, high-efficiency DC-DC power delivery solution makes increasing the functionality, payload, and range much easier.

Unmanned Aircraft for Communications
This UAV class depends on solar power to meet its long flight time requirements. Solar power systems rely on the use of Maximum Power-Point Tracking (MPPT) circuitry to ensure the harvesting of solar energy at the desired voltage before conversion to a voltage suitable for charging a secondary battery. As UAVs develop, topologies such as Zero Voltage Switching (ZVS) and Zero Current Switching (ZVS/ZCS) are important to enable the widening variety of fuel sources and applications with increasing power challenges.

Power Delivery Network
A combination of the BCM6123 and PI3741 ZVS Buck-Boost regulator provides a tightly regulated 28V output for various UAV loads. The BCM6123 offers an isolated conversion of the 350V to a 48V intermediate bus, while the PI3741 ZVS Buck-Boost regulator has a wide range of input voltage operating capability.
