Go Wireless with Freescale's Kinetis W Series MCUs
Available from Mouser

September 8, 2014 - Mouser Electronics, Inc. is now stocking the Kinetis® KW0x and KW2x microcontrollers from Freescale Semiconductor. As part of Freescale's new Kinetis W series, these microcontrollers (MCUs) include on‑chip sub 1GHz and 2.4GHz RF transceivers and are software compatible with the Kinetis MCU portfolio. The Kinetis W series is optimized for wireless applications and targets low-power embedded RF systems.

The Freescale® Kinetis KW0x and KW2x MCU Families, available from Mouser Electronics, include feature sets that target wireless applications that require high integration with low board space. These MCUs include the right mix of performance, integration, and code security.

The Freescale Kinetis KW0x MCUs are engineered for sub-1 GHz (290-1020 MHz) wireless connectivity applications, and are powered by an ultra-low-power, 48 MHz ARM® Cortex‑M0+ 32-bit MCU.  KW0x MCUs have up to 128KBytes of Flash and up to 16KBytes of RAM, and offer a rich peripheral set with a high-performance bi-directional sub-1 GHz radio, capable of operating over a wide frequency range including 315, 433, 470, 868, 915, 928 and 960 MHz in the license free industrial, scientific and medical (ISM) frequency bands. Target applications for the KW0x include smart metering, building control, home automation, wireless sensor networks, and medical devices.

The Freescale Kinetis KW2x MCUs are powered by an ARM Cortex‑M4 core, integrate an on‑chip RF transceiver, and provide a robust feature set for reliable, secure, and low-power IEEE® 802.15.4 ZigBee® wireless applications. In addition, the dual-PAN support allows the KW2x to simultaneously participate in two ZigBee networks, eliminating the need for multiple radios. The Kinetis KW2x MCUs offer up to 512KBytes of Flash, 64 KBytes of RAM, and up to 64 KBytes of FlexMemory, the KW2x devices target home area networks, meters, gateways, in-home displays and connected appliances, as well as networked building control and home automation with lighting control, HVAC, and security-based applications.

The KW0x and KW2x wireless MCUs are supported by a full suite of development tools provided by Freescale's Tower System development platform, as well as reference boards and a WiFi / 802.11 design kit available through Mouser Electronics. Development support is provided by Freescale's Tower System Development Platform with C compiler support from IAR Systems.
